To educate both members and non-members about the hows and whys of investing in Cooperatives, Magsaysay Multi-Purpose Cooperative (MAGCOOP), through its Business Development Department, successfully held its first-ever edu-webinar series via Zoom and Facebook Live last August 11 to 20, 2021.

Taking advantage of the ECQ which made its members stay home, the five-part webinar was attended by 1,285 participants – 85% were MAGCOOP member crew, allottees and employees and 15% were non-members and guests from other companies, coops, and manning agencies.
In his opening remarks, MAGCOOP General Manager Marlon Roño encouraged members to save and invest and patronize the coop’s products and services.

“Mag-save at mag-invest sa Kooperatiba upang ihanda natin ang ating sarili sa future or sa darating na panahon na meron tayong mahuhugot pag kailangan,” he said.
Experts from the Cooperative Development Authority were invited as speakers including Cheysser Cabatin, Cooperative Development Specialist and Nonalyn Hermogenes, Cooperative Trainor and Organizer. They discussed topics like characteristics of a good coop, how to save and invest in a cooperative way, and benefits of a cooperative member.

“I’d be proud to be a member of this Cooperative” said Ms. Hermogenes, “May sariling building, may sariling ari-arian, and napaka-stable na po ng Coop, napakaraming products and services na pwede nating i-avail. So paano kang hindi magiging proud.”

The talk of MAGCOOP Operations Manager, Rommel Villasfer focused on what MAGCOOP has to offer. He presented the various MAGCOOP products and services and mentioned how competitive MAGCOOP’s lending rates are compared with the leading commercial banks.

In the last leg of the webinar, MAGCOOP Unit Heads, Ma. Elena Galapin, Maria Isabel Lagman, and Marites Cristobal, presented its Online Pre-Membership Education Seminar. The discussion was targeted at non-members who wish to join MAGCOOP and at members who want to start saving and investing their money in the cooperative.

Also, the question-and-answer portion, happened at the latter part of each session, addressed some of the most raised concerns including applying for a loan while onboard, account reactivation and dormancy, loan deductions for vacationing crew, and best loan to avail of, among others.

Since more and more people are getting interested in financial talks due to the negative economic impact of the pandemic, MAGCOOP will hold more info-sessions like this one to help members and non-members alike on how they can save and grow their money wisely.
